How it all began…

Single Moms to Homeowners was started by Alisha to give single parents a sense of security. Alisha was once a single mom at the age of 17 to a baby boy and had full custody of her two little brothers. Survival was the only thing on her mind. She struggled deeply inside, but knew that she had to show up every minute of every day for those three boys. As the sole provider and a renter, she was always worried about rent increases or not being able to pay her rent and getting evicted. She was riddled with anxiety every time there was a maintenance issue or her lease was coming to an end, not knowing if it would cause an increase in rent or if she would have to move again. Figuring out how to come up with the last month's rent and a security deposit was the last thing she needed. Owning a home was not something Alisha thought was possible, nor that she would accomplish. Today, Alisha knows that she and her community of support can make an impact in these single parents' lives. Helping them achieve homeownership and gaining more control of their living situation and giving them opportunity and motivation to reach their goals.
